1. Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre
One of the must-sees in Hanoi is a traditional performance of water puppets, a form of entertainment originating in the rural communities and performed in the flooded rice paddies. Puppets depict scenes from rural life, such as planting, fishing, local festivities and parades accompanied by musicians playing traditional instruments. The performances are colorful, intricate and there is a lot of humor as well. The water puppets show regularly tours overseas.

2. Ca Tru Thang Long
With nearly thousand-year development, ca tru is a scholarly art form that attached to history of Thang Long – Hanoi. After many years of being forgotten, ca tru has been welcomed by people in the recent time.
However, this art form still runs the risk of loss because currently there are only 26 preserved modalities among 99 modalities of ca tru. Therefore Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism submitted the file to UNESCO for recognizing ca tru as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

3. Vietnam National Tuong (classical drama) Theatre
Tuong (Classical drama) was formed in the 12th century, and in the 17th century it was very much in vogue. A Tuong play consists of dances, songs and music which are highly stylized, conventional and imbued with symbolism. In chronological order and by their contents, the Tuong plays are divided into traditional plays, royal plays, social plays and modern plays. Tuong has been preserved from generation to generation and has become a unique performance art of the Vietnamese nation. The Tuong Theater was established in 1959 and is part of the government theatrical company. Its goal is to preserve and develop the art of traditional Tuong.

4. The Golden Bell Show
The Golden Bell Show is the new traditional show. The show presents to you all the sights and sounds of Vietnam through 8 performances of various traditional folk styles – all in just an hour. Get nostalgic with the tragic love stories in Quan Ho singing, or be charmed by our irresistible Cham dance, chuckle at the bizarre couples in Ly Ngua O, and laugh and cry with various styles of Cai Luong plays. The theatre will provide simultaneous interpretation and a lot of visual aids to make sure that you will enjoy the show, experience the life, and understand the very soul of the Vietnamese people!

5. Vietnamese Cooking Class
Learn to cook delicious Vietnamese dishes on a half-day course in Hidden Hanoi’s purpose-built kitchen. As well as hands-on cookery, students learn about the cultural significance of rice, when and how different spices are used, and the importance of fish sauce. Students are taken around the colorful local food market before being taught how to whip up four dishes from five themed menus. ‘Seafood’ includes fresh spring rolls with prawns; ‘Monsoon’ has a banana flower salad; ‘Street Food’ includes barbecued pork; the ‘Village Menu’ has clay pot stewed eggplant with pork; and the ‘Vegetarian’ fried tofu balls.

Several of the hotels in Hanoi have nightly performances by live bands and the CK Bar in the Melia Hanoi is one of the better places.
